Good Afternoon,
I have a topic that has always lingered in the back of my mind: Has certain technologies actually changed people...for the worse? the television and the computer are the "certain technologies" I am mentioning.
The television is an invention that was invented by several people and was demonstrated by John Logie Baird in 1926. The television set is most commonly used for entertainment, news, and advertisement. Today, it is quite uncommon to find a household without a television set. People can go hours watching it, and it doesn't always promote appropriate things.
You can find television programs that promote violence, sexuality, and bad behavior, and this has a bad affect on children. Because youth see certain things on T.V, they find it alright to do. It's the monkey see monkey do affect, and that isn't good. Studies show that children who have high media exposure can cause early sexual activity in children. The reason why people change via television: the media promotes bad programs.
The computer was also invented by several people and the first electronic computer was made in the mid 20th century. The computer is used for work, school, projects, graphics design, news, shopping, ect. The computer is a great invention because it helps do some things that are hard to do by hand. It is a good way to keep in touch with people by using email, facebook, myspace, and so on. The. average person spends 14 hours a week or more on the internet. Like any piece of technology, this one has some disadvantages.
The computer can be a dangerous thing if abused. Teenagers can use chatrooms and websites to meet new people, and this isn't always a good thing. Sexual predators can pretend to be a teenager if they wanted to, and no one would ever know. Teenagers and adults can send racy photos to others without knowing the consequences of their actions. People need to know that anyone can use the computer, and not all of them are good people.
So now my rant is over xD
Have a good weekend!
